Executive Summary
Highlights of Third Quarter, Fiscal Year 1994
(April throught June 1994)
- Completed Phase 1 Build of the Micro-Precision Interferometer (MPI) Testbed
- All pointing subsystem hardware delivered and attached
- Star simulator completed and functional
- All fringe tracking and angle tracking detectors installed
- Payoff on the 3 year ($4M) investment begins with full testbed functionality (expected by 10/94)
- SASSIE and
SITE
IN-STEP PhaseA efforts initiated 5/94, Phase B proposals due 2/95
- Completed fabrication of the SASSIE prototype six axis isolator based on soft active member (SAM) technology
- Released final report on study of adaptive optics system for the Keck Telescope
- Took delivery (from AVCON Corp) of prototype active engine mount actuator for Ford Motor Co. TCA
- Began participation in planning of NASA Geometry and Motion Management Program with Brantley Hanks (LaRC) as lead
Planned for Fourth Quarter, Fiscal Year 1994
(July through September 1994)
- Achieve MPI Testbed functionality - begin technology validation testing
- Conduct rigid base testing of SASSIE prototype six axis isolator
- Hold SITE coordination meeting at JPL
- Conduct acceptance tests on prototype active engine mount actuator
- Discuss strategy for FY '95 and outyears with Code C
